The word “journey” gives images of traveling down a road, of not always being clear as to the next part of the trip, of curves and corners one must negotiate, and of sights and sounds that are new and interesting. For the Christian, life is not only about the destination (being with God in heaven) but also about the WAY to heaven. St. Catherine of Siena said, “All the way to heaven is heaven.”
At Epiphany, the name “Journey of Faith” is used to describe the process of initiation into the Catholic Church – of coming to and growing in the Christian faith. It also very aptly describes the lifelong journey of living as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This faith journey has its roots in the early history of the Church which recognized that conversion to Christ and the Christian way of life takes time to develop and mature through prayer, study, interaction with the Christian community, and good works. It is a path marked with signs and symbols, rituals and rites, mystery and understanding, community and faith, hope, love, and joy. It is a time of preparation for the continued “journey of faith” that encompasses the rest of one’s life.
This process is open to those who are interested in learning more about Jesus and what it means to grow in Christ in the Catholic Church. The Journey of Faith for Children begins in September.
Epiphany’s Adult Journey of Faith process is ongoing – year-round – with sessions being held every Sunday morning from 11:30-1:00 pm in the Adult Education Room #2. Child care will be provided if requested. For more information, contact Deborah West at 405-722-2110 extension 118 or by email.
